GEOGRAPHY

 

India is an asian country that occupies the so called indian subcontient , because of the extension of its territory. It is constituted by the mountain regions of the Himalaya, in the North, the part at north of Ganges River and the plateau of Decan, that occupies the larger area. The area of India is 3.287.263 km2.

 

The region of Himalaya is the highest in the world, separating India from China. In the north of India, South of Himalaya there is a plane bathed by the greater river of India, the Ganges, which begins in the Himalaya. At the South of this region is the plateau of Decan that is limited by mountainous regions in the eastern and western coasts of the subcontinent.

 

India has frontiers with the following countries : at west with Pakistan, at north with China, Nepal and Buthan, at east with Myanmar (Burma). There is also a frontier with Bangladesh which is enclosed at norteast of India between India and the Gulf of Bengal. The extreme South of the indian continent is near another country, the island of Sri Lanka.

 

The western coast of the continent is bathed by Arabian Sea and the eastern by the Gulf of Bengal, portion of Indian Ocean.

 

In the Arabian Sea India possess Lakshadweep territory and in the Gulf of Bengal the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
