Goa is a small State with 1.3 million people in 1997 and is a result of part of the former India Portuguese State. This territory was integrated in India in 1961, after almost 500 years of portuguese domain. This domination came in sequence of the discovery of the sea way between Portugal, in Europa and India, in 1498, by Vasco da Gama, achievement in view to the control of commerce of indian spices taken by arabians. The portuguese arrived Goa in 1510 commanded by Afonso de Albuquerque. Goa touches at north the indian state of Maharashtra and at east Karnataka. At west are the waters of the Arabian Sea. The capital Panaji (Panjim for the portuguese) had 93 000 people in 1997. The main languages are konaki, marati, and also a little of inglês and portuguese.
